Internshipsss

2 weeks down of internship, 10 months to go!
AUSD has been good so far! The first couple of days were hectic cause everything was new and they were still figuring out what school to place me at. But I am officially now at Northrup Elementary! It's a k-8 elementary school. I also work for Century High School and Fremont Elementary, but I am only at the Northrup campus.

I like their mascot though! ^ haha.

I work for the Gateway to Success program through AUSD. Its a counseling program for kids who are facing academic problems, problems at school, problems at home, socializing issues, etc. Teachers/staff refer kids to our program who need special one-on-one counseling/therapeutic services. I don't do the one-on-one sessions with the kids. I do all the processing of referrals. If a student is referred, I contact the parent to come to the school to sign consent. I also put in all the students info into the Gateway system. Eventually though ill be doing group sessions with the kids which I am really excited about! We have a TON of students in the program. Over 1,000 throughout the district. I am only assigned to those 3 schools though. Theres 4 other interns from Calstate LA that got this internship and they work for the rest of the schools in AUSD.

This is basically my daily schedule there: I get there clock in, check my box for new referrals, go to my office (basically a big classroom that they store a ton of boxes and crap in! haha) and make a bajillion phone calls to all the referrals for the day. Then I input all the students information who got a referral. It seems like not a lot but its pretty time consuming. Then I go to lunch, and after that I go to the School District for supervision. I have a supervisor that works for AUSD as well as CSULA and they make sure I am ok and am doing what I am supposed to be doing. She's going to be the one writing my letter of recommendation when I finish so I gotta be extra nice to her haha. I like it overall! I get out around 3-4pm and leave my house at 6am so it takes a big chunk of my day. I am usually pooped by the time im home. Traffic wears me out so bad for some reason. I literally sit in traffic for about a total of 4 hours (2 hours in the morning getting there and 2 hours going home) I think I am going to start taking the train again its only 2 days a week though so its not thaat bad. Once I start school on the 25th ill have class right after internship on Tues/Thurs so at least itll be worth the trip.

Hmm what else?
I really REALLY wanted to take a trip or something before school starts. I want to go camping SO bad. Just a one nighter thing. I wanted something fun to look forward to ive been so busy lately didnt even have a vacation or trip this summer. I am however going to a Julieta Venegas concert next week!!!! I am so excited! Thats gonna be like the highlight of my summer haha! How about you? Did you register for school yet missy! We need to plan our City of Bones movie date this weekend too!
